What is magnesium?

Magnesium is a mineral that is the most abundant mineral in your body after calcium, potassium and sodium. Magnesium contributes to many body processes that deal with, for example, the brain, nerves, muscles, the heart and the immune system. For example, magnesium promotes normal muscle function, normal energy metabolism, the maintenance of strong bones and teeth, reduction of fatigue, normal protein synthesis and it is the natural anti-stress mineral.

Magnesium and hair growth

So magnesium is quite a busy boss in your body. But how does it contribute to healthy and better hair growth? When it comes to that, magnesium has two functions: on the one hand it prevents calcium build up, on the other hand the mineral aids in protein synthesis.

Magnesium prevents calcium build up

First of all, magnesium helps prevent calcium build up on your scalp. Yes, build up is not only caused by stacking layers of hair products on your hair. Calcium build up is caused by hard water, among other things. Due to the build up, calcium clogs the hair follicles, making the scalp dry and flaky, it has a negative effect on healthy hair growth and can eventually lead to hair loss.

Magnesium naturally counteracts calcium by slowing calcium production and improving calcium circulation. In this way, magnesium ensures that calcium goes to your bones where it is needed, instead of building up on your hair and scalp. In addition, it helps to release hair follicles clogged by calcium and thus stimulate hair growth.

Magnesium aids in protein synthesis

Magnesium also contributes to normal protein synthesis. This is a process in your body that produces proteins. When you consider that your hair is almost entirely made up of protein (keratin), you can imagine that normal protein synthesis is important for the growth of your hair. Better protein synthesis means healthier hair and a more predictable hair cycle. Just like many processes in the body, think of your period, your hair also has a certain cycle. In the hair cycle, phases of growth and rest alternate. Protein synthesis also helps your body to produce melanin, a substance that prevents your hair from turning grey.

Magnesium and hair loss

On average, a person loses about 100 hairs a day. Hair loss doesn’t necessarily mean you’re deficient in magnesium, but it can speed up that process. It is therefore advisable to use magnesium if you suffer from a lot of hair loss. How much magnesium you need depends on a number of factors, such as your gender and age. Above all, stick to the prescribed dose of magnesium . In addition, there are many other causes for above-average hair loss. Think of a change in your diet, hormones that play a role, your health, weather change when the seasons change, or something else that has changed in your environment. If you notice that you are really bald and your scalp is becoming more and more visible, it is wise to see a doctor.

How do you get magnesium?

How do you ensure that you get enough magnesium? You can get it from food, or through magnesium oil.

Magnesium from food

First of all, you can get magnesium from food. Cooked spinach, leafy greens, halibut, rice (bran), Brazil nuts, dark chocolate, black beans, and pumpkin seeds are all high in magnesium. A more effective way to get enough magnesium is via pills in pill form or, if you are going to use magnesium for stimulating hair growth, oil.

Magnesium oil

Magnesium oil is made from a mixture of magnesium chloride flakes and water. When these two substances are mixed, the liquid feels oily, but it is not technically oil. Magnesium oil contains a highly concentrated amount of magnesium and is an easily absorbable form of magnesium. You cannot take it, but it is intended to be applied to the skin.

Do you want to apply magnesium oil against hair loss to your hair and scalp? Before you start, make sure that your scalp is free from other oils and lotions, because otherwise the magnesium cannot do its job properly. Then massage the magnesium oil well on your scalp and wet hair, which you can keep up for about ten minutes. Or ask someone else to do this for you ;-). Let the oil soak in for half an hour, then rinse well.

In any case, we are very enthusiastic about this natural remedy that works super effectively for problems with hair growth or hair loss.
