Nourishing your curls through a deep conditioner, or hair mask, is one of the most important parts of the Curly Girl Method. A mask penetrates the hair deeper and is extra nurturing. You can think of it as an extra treatment to restore dry and damaged hair.
Why a hair mask?
Curls are naturally drier than straight hair. Unlike straight hair, the oils that your scalp produces take longer to make their way to your hair ends. That’s why deep conditioning through a hair mask is an important part of your curly hair routine. Choose a good CG-friendly hair mask from the list above, co-wash first and then apply a nice amount of the hair mask to your hair. It’s best to divide your hair into four sections to make sure your whole hair benefits. Work from the ends up to the roots, focusing on the ends of your hair, as that’s where your curls tend to be driest. Leave it on for about twenty minutes and then rinse it out well. Do you have very dry hair? Then you can leave a little bit in. We recommend using a hair mask once or twice a week. You can even leave it in overnight once in a while. This is because the secret of deep conditioning lies in the time you take to soak the product in.
