Stimulate hair growth: 5 tips

Unfortunately, there’s no miracle cure that will make your hair grow a lot at once, but we do have 5 useful tips for you!

Take care of your hair

As we said, in order to stimulate hair growth, it’s important that your hair is healthy. Because dry and damaged hair breaks more quickly, so it doesn’t even get the chance to grow longer. But how do you get healthy hair? The best tip for healthy curls is to follow the Curly Girl Method. This is the ideal hair routine for those with waves, curls or coils. Because on one side you stop depriving your hair of moisture by using products containing sulphates, and on the other hand your hair really nourishes moisture rather than the superficial moisturizing effect of silicone.

Another important tip: don’t wash your hair too frequently. It can dry your curls out because you are not allowing your hair to absorb the natural oils it produces. Dry hair becomes weak and prone to breakage. Opt for a mild shampoo or even better: use a co-wash. Besides that, use a deep conditioner every now and then. You can see this as an extra treatment to restore dry and damaged hair. The benefits of deep conditioning are beautiful, healthy and shiny curls that shape better.

Eat healthy

You know what they say: you are what you eat. And that goes for your curls too. Healthy hair starts from within! Therefore, it’s important to eat as varied as possible, to get enough vitamins and minerals in. Examples are:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Folic Acid
  • Biotin
  • Calcium
  • Omega 3 fats

You can get these vitamins and minerals in through your diet, but nowadays there are all kinds of hair vitamins for sale too. They don’t only contain many of the above vitamins and minerals, but also all important nutrients that make the hair stronger, thicker and longer. Besides that, make sure you drink enough water. This ensures that waste products are disposed of, which ultimately results in healthier hair.

Give yourself a scalp massage

If you want healthy hair, you’ve got to take care of your hair follicles. There are several ways to do this. For example, you can give your scalp weekly massages. By massaging the scalp, the blood circulation is stimulated, which ensures better hair growth. It’s a good tool for cleaning your scalp too: with the circular movements you remove build up, flakes and dandruff. You can do this with your fingers or use a special head massage brush. Make small circular motions over your scalp, but be careful not to overdo it.

And of course, a scalp massage is a nice moment of relaxation too! It’s not a myth that stress can hinder hair growth. Stress can actually force our hair into a resting stage, where it refuses to grow any longer. In addition to a scalp massage, you can occasionally do a scalp treatment. This ensures that your scalp recovers and hair growth is stimulated.

Trim only when necessary

If you have split ends it’s best to cut them off so they don’t get worse. It’s only going to wreak havoc on the rest of your hair shaft over time. Plus, it tends to make your hair look pretty frizzy. Go to a stylist who knows the difference between a trim and a full-on haircut. Otherwise you will spend years growing out your hair. And go for a trim only when necessary. If you don’t have split ends, wait a while before making a hairdressing appointment.

If it seems like your tresses never get past a certain length, it probably has more to do with your ends than your roots. It totally depends on your personal hair and how you treat it. That’s why it’s essential to care for your ends as much as possible. Keep your hands out of your hair. Try and keep your ends off of your shoulders whenever you can. Put your hair up in a ponytail, and use an invisibobble or scrunchie for this, as they are gentler on curly hair and cause less breakage. All of these things will help to keep your ends in good shape.

Keep your curls happy

If you’re truly serious about growing out your hair: be nice to your hair! That means: don’t touch it a lot, don’t use too many hair products and avoid ingredients that are bad for your hair. Other things you can do to keep your curls happy include:

  • Don’t forget your curl care at night! Sleep on a satin pillowcase or use a hair bonnet, they’re crucial to preventing breakage.
  • Before going to bed, put your curls in a pineapple so you don’t lie on top of your them.
  • Brush your curls gently, preferably after applying a deep conditioner. This makes your hair soft, so you can easily go through it with a brush and your hair doesn’t break.
  • Use a Denman Brush, they are specially made for curls. It removes tangles from the hair more easily, without breaking or fluffing, gives a nice definition and adds extra volume.
  • As for styling, it’s important to avoid too much heat (like with a hair dryer and other heat tools) if you want healthy curls that grow long and strong.

Our last tip is: be patient! Unfortunately, your hair won’t grow out in one day. Do you have any questions? Let us know in the comments below!
