Olaplex No.0: how does it work?

Olaplex is seen as a technological breakthrough in the cosmetic industry. The star ingredient is bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, which will restore and repair chemical-treated, heat-ridden hair.

The immediate result is strong, bouncy and shiny hair. Stars like Cameron Diaz, Emma Stone, and Jennifer Lopez are huge Olaplex fans.

These formulas seek out broken bonds in the hair, which are caused by chemical, thermal and mechanical damage, and repair them, transforming your tresses’ fortunes.

The latest product is the No.0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment, which has the highest dose of patented Olaplex technology in any take-home product.

It’s intended to work as a two-part process:

the restorative No.0 formula acts as a primer to the No.3 Hair Perfector, amplifying the efficacy of both treatments to rebuild hair bonds, strengthen and protect your hair’s integrity.

Research has shown that hair treated with the combination of Olaplex No.0 and No.3 has 68% more recovery and is three times stronger.

Olaplex No.0 can be seen as the light version of the Olaplex Recovery Treatment that is offered in salons.

The difference is that you can skip the salon and use Olaplex No.0 yourself at home. And it only takes twenty minutes.

Is it CG-proof?

Olaplex No.0 is Curly Girl-proof, just like Nos. 1, 2 and 3! Olaplex No.1 and No.2 are not available to consumers; they may only be performed by professional salons. No.3 is a home treatment, just like No.0. They’re easily obtained and are fully approved according to the Curly Girl Method. What do the Nos. 1 to 3 do?

  1. Olaplex Nr. 1 Bond Multiplier: this prevents damage from the chemical treatment and starts the process of repairing the damage to the hair. The product is designed to be mixed with the paint before it is applied to the hair.
  2. Olaplex Nr. 2 Perfector: this step in the Olaplex treatment continues to repair the hair and rebuild the remaining broken bonds. Applied after the paint has been rinsed, this product promises to reduce hair breakage.
  3. Olaplex Nr. 3 Perfector: the third step of the Olaplex treatment is a home treatment that promises to reduce breakage and visibly strengthen the hair.

How to use Olaplex No.0

You can use Olaplex No.0 once a week, or two to a maximum of three times a week if your hair is very damaged. Brush your hair before applying the product, so it can absorb the product well.

If you have thick or long hair, it’s helpful to divide it into sections so that you can easily reach every part of your hair.

Apply the No.0 on clean and dry hair, concentrating on the mid-lengths and ends. Comb the product through to ensure saturation from root to tip.

Wait 10 minutes, and don’t rinse it out. Then apply No.3 directly on top of No.0, and comb again to saturate throrougly.

The packaging says you should let it soak for at least 10 minutes, but for an even better result we recommend to let it sit longer. Once completed, rinse, and wash your hair the way you normally do.

Olaplex No.0 reviews

Before you’re buying a new product, you first want to read a few reviews. At least, that’s how we roll.

That’s why we collected a few reviews from different people below!

Krullentemmer Krullenkapper

Krullentemmer Krullenkapper uses Olaplex No.1 and No.2 in her salon, so she could compare it with the results of the home treatment No.0 and No.3.

To do this, she used Olaplex No.0 and No.3 on the left side of her hair and Olaplex No.1 and No.2 on the right side.

After the treatment and drying her curls, she actually didn’t notice any difference between right and left.

According to her, the biggest difference is that you get a comprehensive treatment at a salon, including washing, styling, drying and hair advice.

The video is in Dutch, so make sure you hit the subtitle button if you can’t understand what she’s saying. 😉

Chloe Homan

Chloe Homan reviewed Olaplex No.0, in which she is very clear. “When I say this duo is everything I ever could have wanted it to be, I mean it. It’s so freaking good”. She thinks the brand is quite pricey, but she’s a big Olaplex fan anyway because it works so well.

Refinery29

Jacqueline Kilikita reviewed Olaplex No.0 for Refinery29 and also is really excited about it. “After I blow-dried my hair as usual, I was positively surprised.

I couldn’t see any frizzy bits, which usually crop up at my roots, and the rest of my hair felt like silk. I considered rocking my natural waves but wanted to see whether styling would be easier.

I was right: Straightening felt like much less of a chore, as my hair was so soft.”

The Stripe

Grace Atwood, from the blog The Stripe, was a little skeptical as she loves the original so much – would this actually do anything else? But she was really impressed though!

Especially with the shine Olaplex No.0 gives her hair. “My hair is noticeably smoother and SHINIER when I use this!

Shine is definitely the key difference of using the duo vs. just No.3.

All of Olaplex’s products feature bond-building technology which actually works to repair the bonds of your hair, resulting in noticeably healthier hair.

Your hair will be stronger with less breakage, healthier, softer, and SHINIER! This gets my stamp of approval.”
