The benefits of flaxseed gel for your curls

Flaxseed gel is used as a natural styling product by many no-pooers and Curly Girl Method followers . While there are styling products available that don’t contain silicones, sulfates, or parabens, they still contain many other unnecessary ingredients. And that’s the key difference with flaxseed gel. Flaxseed is packed with protein , fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and is rich in vitamin E and minerals like iron and magnesium. It’s praised for its moisturizing, conditioning, and nourishing properties that stimulate hair growth. In America and England, flaxseed gel has long been known as “Flaxseed Gel.”

Here are the benefits of linseed gel in a nutshell:

  • It gives your hair shine
  • It provides curl definition
  • Your hair is hydrated
  • It is moisturizing which will make your hair less frizzy
  • It gives your curls a soft hold
  • It combines well with curl creams and other gels.
  • It is suitable for all hair types

Flaxseed is easy to add to your diet, but how do you ensure your hair reaps the maximum benefits? By making flaxseed gel! Don’t worry, it takes a little getting used to, but once you do, it’s incredibly easy. It also makes flaxseed gel an affordable and completely vegan hair product that’s also fun to make.

How do you make your own flaxseed gel?

To make your own flaxseed gel, you’ll need the following:

  • Flaxseed: 40 grams (1/4 cup)
  • Water: 500 ml (2 cups)
  • Measuring cup or cup
  • Wooden spoon
  • Glass bottle or jar, in which you can make and use the gel
  • Pantyhose
  • Possibly something to pour the gel into, such as a bottle with a pump or squeeze bottle

Got everything you need? Then you can get started!

MIX : Combine the flaxseed with water in a saucepan and heat until boiling, stirring constantly. Let it simmer for 8-10 minutes. Keep stirring constantly, because trust us, you don’t want to have to scrape off any caked-on flaxseed from the bottom of your saucepan.

BOIL : After a few minutes, a jelly-like substance will begin to form. This substance will reduce until it forms more of a gel. Stay with the pan and watch carefully, as flaxseed gel can fail if it’s not the right consistency. You want a gel that’s not too thin and runny, but also not too thick. If the gel gets too thick, you’ll end up with a white residue in your hair when it dries.

POURING : Once the water starts to boil, a layer of foam will appear on top. Reduce the heat. Then, take the glass jar and pull the pantyhose over the opening. Pour the contents of the jar into the jar, leaving the flaxseed on the pantyhose. This will help separate the gel from the remaining seeds, as you don’t want any seeds in your gel.

SQUEEZE : We curly-haired types always squeeze out every last drop, even when making flaxseed gel. 😉Once most of the liquid has dripped into the glass jar, use a wooden spoon to squeeze out as much of the remaining gel as possible between the flaxseeds and into the pantyhose.

COOL : Let the gel cool for about 10 minutes. If you want to use it right away, you can also freeze it for 5-10 minutes. If necessary, transfer the gel to a pump or squeeze bottle. If you don’t have one, you can simply leave it in the glass jar and take out a little each time.

STORAGE : Store the gel in the glass jar in the refrigerator until use. The gel will last for about one to two weeks. Note: if it starts to smell a bit strange before then, throw it away.

SPICE IT UP : You can also add some extra ingredients to the gel, like vitamin E, argan oil, or aloe vera. Whatever your curls need! This will give your hair extra nourishment and also help your gel last longer; about three weeks. You can also add a few drops of essential oil. Atlas cedar or lavender essential oil, for example, are good for your hair and scalp.

How do you use it?

Flaxseed gel is best used on wet hair. After washing, apply a generous amount of gel to your hands, rub it in thoroughly, and distribute it through your wet hair. Ideally, use the ” squish to condish” method. And don’t skimp on the gel; it’s very moisturizing, which curls can really benefit from. Then let your hair dry naturally or use a hairdryer with a diffuser on the cool setting. If you want to use flaxseed gel without washing your hair, it’s best to wet your hair slightly. Part your hair, and distribute the gel through your locks. This will give you beautiful, tousled hair with well-defined curls.

You can use flaxseed gel as its sole styling product, or combine it with a cream, mousse, or other gel. You can use it as the first step, or as the last step. The possibilities are endless!
